What Is An IP Address (

Think of it as a postal address for your computer. In the same way you need an address before you can send a letter to a friend, your computer needs a digital address to connect with another computer/device on that network.

When we say device we mean anything that can connect to a network be it a phone, notebook, tablet, smart TV, toaster or any other smart device for that matter. IP addresses are made up of four numbers separated by a point not a comma.

To allow for the huge amount of addresses needed these four groups of numbers range from 0 to 255. How to Change Your WiFi Password at

  1. Login to your router’s IP address via an internet browser, using your username and password.
  2. Go to settings. Find and open the wireless section. This may have sub sections so look for wireless security. Different manufacturers may configure their settings pages differently. With that in mind the setting needed could be titled “change router password”. It may be that simple.
  3. You will find a box with the label “shared key”, “password” or “passphrase”. Type your new password in that box. Some manufacturers require you to repeat the password to make sure you don’t make an error.

Here is where you can create a password that is virtually impossible to guess. A strong password is at least 8 characters long. Use a good selection of upper and lowercase, special characters such as @, # or% and of course numbers. Avoid using anything personal like birth-dates.

If you are using a Mac go to Applications and select Utilities. Your SSID is displayed there. An even quicker way to find your SSID is if you have a WiFi icon on your taskbar. Click on this and all available SSIDs will be listed. If you are connected to your router, it will display as a connected network.
